Department of Environment’s Online Permits and Application System
The Online Permits and Application System (OPAL) was launched by the Department of the Environment (DOE) for the issuance of permits as regulated by the Environment Protection Act. The system was designed to centralize the management for permits and licenses, to generate reports and to allow for more smooth business processes. It was later identified that the system required improvements for better processes and efficiency. Therefore, the Unit enhanced the system to improve reporting, data analysis and process flow. Some additions to the system included the ability for traders to register online and two more permit modules.
