Launch of the Civil Registry and Vital Statistics System
The Government of Belize, through the Ministry of E-Governance and the Attorney General’s
Ministry, through strategic financial and technical support from the Inter-American Development
Bank (IDB), is proud to announce the official launch of the fully modernized Civil Registry and
Vital Statistics (CRVS) System. This landmark project is a core part of the Government of Belize’s
National Digital Agenda and transitions the nation's vital records from paper-based legacy systems
to a secure, real-time digital platform.
The CRVS system is designed to modernize and strengthen the management of civil registration
and vital statistics across the country. It represents a significant step toward improving the
accuracy, accessibility, and security of vital records, including births, deaths, marriages, and
adoptions. By leveraging cutting-edge technology and international best practices, the system will
ensure that every citizen has access to reliable documentation, which is critical for exercising legal
rights, accessing social services, and supporting evidence-based policymaking.
The modernized system delivers unprecedented accessibility and security to every Belizean.
Below are some of the key benefits and features of the CRVS System:
• Enhanced accessibility: Citizens can now apply for all Vital Statistics Unit (VSU) services
online and track their application status. Services are being decentralized, allowing citizens
to apply for any service and pick up certificates from any VSU office countrywide.
• Enhanced Security: New certificate designs feature scannable QR codes to instantly
confirm document validity. Electronic certificates are fully valid and can be printed by
citizens at their convenience.
• Digital Payment Methods: Online payment methods are now available, including Ekyash,
Belize Bank Bill Payment, and Credit Card payments.
• System-to-System Integration: The CRVS is integrated with the Belize Health Information
System to streamline birth and death registration. It is also integrated with the Passports
and Social Security Systems for real-time identification (ID) verification.
This initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to strengthening governance, promoting
social inclusion, and advancing digital transformation. The collaboration with the IDB underscores
the shared vision of fostering sustainable development and improving public service delivery.
