Launch of consultations for the development of the National Identification (ID) Bill

the Government of Belize successfully hosted the official launch of consultations for the development of the National Identification (ID) Bill.

The kick-off session marked the beginning of a collaborative and engaging consultation process designed to guide the drafting of a comprehensive and inclusive National ID Bill.

This important initiative seeks to strengthen identity management, enhance service delivery, and improve citizens’ access to social and economic opportunities. The event brought together a diverse range of stakeholders, including representatives from civil society, academia, the private sector, and government institutions.

The session was both informative and highly interactive. Participants engaged in constructive dialogue, sharing initial questions, concerns, recommendations, and key opportunities to support the development of a robust and citizen-centered National ID Framework.

The proposed National ID Bill and supporting regulations aim to:
• Establish a unified and secure legal foundation for identity management.
• Safeguard data privacy and protection for all individuals.
• Define institutional roles, governance structures, and oversight mechanisms.
• Improve access to public services, financial systems, and social protection programs.
• Strengthen national security and administrative efficiency.
• Accelerate digital transformation across government and private sector services.

Over the coming weeks, additional consultations, engagements, and awareness activities will be carried out. The Government of Belize encourages all stakeholders, including the general public, to participate actively and share their perspectives to help shape a modern, secure, and inclusive National ID System. The mechanisms for public participation will be posted on the Ministry of E-Governance Facebook page.
