Strengthening the governance structure for the Implementation of Digital Services and the Digital Agenda
In October 2021, the Cabinet endorsed the first National Digital Agenda. The Agenda is a four year strategic plan which highlights the need to improve the governance and institutional framework, legal framework, digital talent and digital infrastructure. It also makes recommendations for the development of a Digital Law to support the transition into a digital government. Therefore, with the support of the UNDP, Belize’s first Digital Government Act was enacted. The UNDP is also supporting the development of a Digital Law Action Plan to guide the implementation of the legislation.
Additionally, through grant funding from the Compete Caribbean Partnership Facility, 5 key legislations were drafted:
- Digital Government Act
- Data Protection Act
- Public Sector Data Sharing Act
- Electronic Funds Transfer Crime Act
- Electronic Transaction Act
